Overview of Curriculum

 

Key Stage 3

In St Mary's, pupils follow a broad and balanced curriculum which provides a coherent link between primary and secondary school. In implementing the Education Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 1989, we hope to provide for pupils at Key Stages 3 and 4 a curriculum which will prepare them for adult life. The following subjects are available in Key Stage 3:

English Home Economics
Mathematics Music
Science Physical Education
Religious Studies     Art  & Design
History Careers
Geography Drama
French Technology and Design

Key Stage 4

The curriculum at Key Stage 4 is a continuation of the curricular process at Key Stage 3. The following subjects are available in Key Stage 4:

Additional Mathematics History
Art & Design ICT
Business & Communication Systems Mathematics 
Business Studies Media Studies
Child Development Music
Drama Physical Education
English Religious Studies
English Literature Science
French Technology & Design
Geography Word Processing

 

Sixth Form

St Mary's has a long tradition of Post 16 provision and in recent years the school has been gradually expanding its Post 16 provision. It is our intention to continue to extend the range of Post 16 courses encompassing a wider range of 'A' Level and AVCE/VCE courses. The following courses are currently on offer:

Art & Design GCE "A" Level CCEA
AVCE Business Advanced OCR
AVCE ICT Advanced OCR
VCE Business Intermediate OCR
VCE Health & Social Care Intermediate OCR
Biology GCE "A" Level CCEA
Geography GCE "A" Level CCEA
Media Studies GCE "A" Level WJEC

In addition to their academic studies, sixth form pupils undertake a taught pastoral programme including Religious Education and play a very active role in the broader life of the school.
