Year 8 Sketchbook Covers

29th Sep 2023

Year 8 pupils enjoyed creating sketchbook covers inspired by the work of acclaimed artist Yinka Shonibare. Pupils viewed the artist's installation The American Library which consists of 6,000 books of different sizes wrapped in Dutch wax printed cotton. The installation celebrates diversity and explores identity. The students designed their sketchbook covers and used wax and watercolour to create images and patterns relating to their identity and cultures. To complete their work they used the iron and newsprint paper to remove the wax. Well done girls, your book covers are beautiful!
