Holocaust Memorial Day

26th Jan 2021

As we commemorate the victims of the Holocaust, we are challenged to also recognise it as a historical event with contemporary lessons for today's deeply divided world. Commemorating the Holocaust is to be reminded of the diligence necessary to promote and protect human rights, the deep commitment to nurture inclusive democratic institutions, and the willingness to see our neighbour in the face of ‘the other’, rather than as a threat. Commemoration of the past must be followed by responsibility to the present and our shared future.

The UK Holocaust Memorial Day 2021 ceremony will be streamed online at 7pm. This will be the first fully digital ceremony.

The ceremony will run from 7–8pm.

At 8pm, get ready to 'Light the Darkness'. Households across the UK will be lighting candles and safely putting them in their windows to:

  • remember those who were murdered for who they were
  • stand against prejudice and hatred today

Light a candle and put it in your window at 8pm on 27 January 2021 (if you are able to do so safely).
