Lightening Lauren Strikes Again

7th Feb 2018

Yesterday St. Mary's Cross Country runners headed to Campbell College to take part in the Co. Down Schools Cross Country. The day got off to a flying start with a 1500m year 8 girls race. It was a close race for the first 800 metres with Lauren Madine being challenged by her East Down club mates representing the Assumption Grammar and Down High School. As the course moved slightly down hill Lauren put a stretch in her stride to open up a comfortable lead. Up next is the Ulster Finals. Our other year 8's competing in this race all finished well up the field putting St. Marys 7th place overall.

Next up we had the minor girls race with an increased distance of 1700m. The pace was blistering from the start and our pupils managed again to finish well within the pack.

In the Junior and Intermediate girls races we had some great performances and strong running. The time between 1st and 201st in all of these races is minimal and the girls showed great determination and resilience. A special mention must go to year 12 Alicia Bohill-Garrigan who despite being niggled by a knee injury managed to complete the difficult course. We are as always very proud of all the Athletes who took part and we look forward to the Ulster Final.
