Message from our Principal

30th Mar 2020

Dear Pupils/Parents,

I hope you and all your families are well as the girls begin Week 2 working from home.

Years 8-10 please maintain your good efforts in all your subject areas.  It will be so important to spend extra time working on your literacy and numeracy. Try to be helpful at home in supporting your families and helping younger sisters and brothers who are still at primary school.

Years 11 – 14, you may well have heard the news late on Friday afternoon from CCEA.

They have stated that ‘learners should still be working towards completing their programme of study.’   and

Furthermore, all coursework is to be retained so that it may be available for future consideration and reference.’

CCEA have agreed to provide further updates as soon as possible and I will share them with you when they become available.

Years 11-14 -  It is really important that you keep working at home, completing any work that you have been given to do.  Your teachers are required to keep records of your work for the range of examining bodies.

BTEC Subjects - It is crucial that those students who are studying BTEC subjects complete their coursework and send it to their teachers using whatever method you have agreed with your subject teachers.  Your teachers are providing me with updates on a daily basis.

Collaboration Students – It is important that any students studying subjects at De La Salle, St Patrick’s Grammar School or Blackwater complete the work given and meet the agreed deadlines in all those schools.

Passwords - Last week all students were requested to check their passwords as some had expired.  If there are any issues with the instructions given please alert your teachers and Mr Copeland so that issues can be addressed.

Years 12 & 14 I know that you are worried about the position regarding examinations I have been informed that Ofqual – the independent qualifications regulatory body will develop a fair and robust process that takes into account a broad range of guidance, including teacher assessment and prior attainment.  They are trying to a create a process that is fair for everyone affected by this very complex situation.   It is so crucial that you maintain the ‘Can do Attitude’ and resilience that have brought you to this stage of your educational journey and complete any work required of you. This will require self-discipline and motivation. Please do your best to support each other.

Year 14 students I know that this is a particularly anxious time for you; you had been working so hard to secure your places at university.  I know that you will maintain your excellent efforts this week.  I have been informed that UCAS will be emailing you directly.  If you have any concerns please email Mrs Arkins directly as I know that she will be very happy to support you in any way she can.

In the coming week, I hope everyone keeps safe and well in what has become a very extraordinary situation.

I know that  Sr Vianney and Sr Mary remember all the pupils, staff and all families in their daily prayers and we are all very grateful to them.

Best wishes  to everyone.

Ms McLaughlin.
