Prize Day - Celebrating Achievements

14th Sep 2018

Our annual Prize Day took place recently. This year we celebrated the outstanding results of our students.

It was wonderful to see so many parents/guardians and grandparents who came to join us in these celebrations. We value their support and contribution to their child's education. It is when we all work as a team that we really see each student achieve the very best they can.

In Mrs Darling's address she spoke of these achievements.

"The outcomes at GCSE, As and A2 have yet again been outstanding.

  • 100% of the students at GCSE, As and A level gained their qualifications
  • At GCSE over 2/3 of our students scored exceptionally high grades of A*and A and B. 187 of those grades are all at A*-B
  • 12 students secured either 9/10 GCSE qualifications with all their grades in the very top categories A*, A and B
  • These 12 top performing students have a collective total of 115 GCSE between them all at A*, A and B grades.

The most recently released figures from department of education for students gaining a minimum of 5 GCSE including English and Maths was 47% GCSE. St Mary`s students have far exceeded this Northern Ireland figure with 64 % of these young ladies reaching that government bench mark.

We congratulate all our GCSE students and remind them the job is not yet complete there are 2 more years of study ahead and they must keep up the hard work if they are to reach their potential at A level

Our A level students have yet again all secured A level qualification with 93% of the students gaining the very top grades across their subject areas. "

Our guest speaker was Mrs Michele Marken O.B.E. She has had a very interesting life, steeped in education. She spoke of the challenges that face our students in today's society and how our students are quickly becoming confident young people, ready to rise to these challenges. She commented that the song our choir sang "This is me", from The Greatest Showman was very aptly chosen as it epitomises the thoughts of our students.   We welcomed Mrs Marken's contribution to the days proceedings.
