Soroptimist International Public Speaking Competition 2017

On Wednesday 8th November 2017, Jasmine Taylor took part in the Soroptimist International 36th Annual Public Speaking Competition which was held in Down High School’s library. Jasmine was highly commended for her excellent oratory and achieved joint third place.

The aims of event were: to encourage girls to play a more prominent part in public life, to improve the art of communication, to encourage girls to develop the skill to speak effectively, to articulate with clarity and to develop self-confidence and personality.

Jasmine spoke about the topic: Is it right to criminalise another’s culture?  and debated the aspects surrounding this issue with clarity.

The English department would like to congratulate Jasmine who participated in this worthwhile event.
