St. Mary’s Young Entrepreneurs

Research shows that enterprise education inspires young people to become more employable. The Business Studies Department are totally thrilled with the efforts made by their Year 10 students in setting up and running their own businesses.  Mrs Curley, Miss Curran and Ms Walls were delighted with the ideas and hard work that students contributed to make this a success.  Ideas ranged from creating stars to hang on Christmas trees in memory of a loved one, nominating people within the school community as stars, making snowmen out of sweets, designing tubs of sweets. The list of ideas went on and on.

By setting up and running their own business,  our Year 10 students developed a wide range of key skills needed, not only for the world of work, but also for day to day life.

They were able to;

  • understand how a business works and how profit is created.
  • understand how to work as part of a team.
  • improve their communication skills.
  • increase their enthusiasm and self-confidence.
  • enable their willingness to take responsibility and show initiative.
  • manage their time effectively.
  • develop effective work and social skills.

As a result of all the hard work and success of each business a considerable amount of money was raised for charity.  It was decided that this year, Friends of the Cancer Charity would benefit from the Year 10 students’ enterprise activity.  A great achievement. Well done girls and well done to all the Teachers involved. Your Business Studies teachers Miss Curran, Ms Walls and Head of Department Mrs Curley are incredibly proud of you all.
