An exciting finale to the Ulster ladies PPS Under 16 Final

14th Jan 2019

It was an exciting match from start to finish. St. Mary's started the match with a strong defence and it wasn't until the 8th minute that the first point was scored. Another 3 points followed for St. Franchea's, but St. Mary's fought back with a goal in the 16th minute. By the end of the first half St. Franchea's had a good lead with 1:8 (11) to St. Mary's High School 1:2 (5).

Our Girls came back to the pitch determined  and within 12 seconds had scored their first point. Their attack was second to none and within 22 minutes they had evened out the scores having dominated the match. St. Franchea's had yet to score in this second half.

By the end of the second half St. Mary's had maintained this attack and both teams were all square with St. Mary's 2:9 (15) St. Franchea's 2:9 (15).

However St. Franchea's came back into the first half of extra time and scored 2 goals within 6 minutes putting them well in the lead. St. Mary's made a gallant effort to close the gap but unfortunately it wasn't to be..... this time!!

Well done to St. Franchea's - it was a tough fought match. Congratulations!

We are incredibly proud of each and every one of our players. You are a credit to our school.

Well done to Mr Kelly and Mrs Montgomery who coached the girls throughout.

Also to our school community for the fantastic support. Seven coaches left early on Monday morning to support our team, not to mention the parents/guardians, grandparents, and friends who made their own way to Cookstown.

Final score

St. Mary's High School: 2:12 (18)

St. Fanchea's: 4:11 (23)
