Year 14 attend Trocaire’s launch of ’Women taking the Lead' in Stormont

26th Feb 2020

Year 14 A level Religion students attended Trocaire’s launch of their report ’Women taking the Lead: Defending Human Rights and the Environment,’ today at Stormont. Our students heard from Bertha Caceres, an environmental activist and mother of the murdered activist Berta Caceres from Honduras. We were privileged to learn for her mother’s campaign to protect her indigenous people of Honduras from the devastating impact of the building of a hydro-electric dam on their land. Our students also heard about the many women who are campaigning for the protection of both the environment and human rights. A spokesperson from Trocaire explained that climate change is worsening the gender poverty gap and that women are 14 times as likely to be killed by climate disasters than men.
