Year 8 Donation to the Downpatrick Food Bank

6th Dec 2017

Year 8 students have been creating hampers for the Downpatrick Food Bank.  The idea came to them through their study of Catherine Mc Auley in their RE classes when one student Saoirse Gracey in 8MW2 suggested that the girls follow Catherine’s example of helping others.  Catherine was the founder of the Sisters of Mercy who came to Downpatrick in the 1950s and established the school.  Students were given the opportunity of donating one item for the hamper and the hampers were assembled by their form teachers Mr Williamson, Mrs Keeling and Ms Walls and donated to the Downpatrick Food Bank.

This shows the true meaning of Christmas.  This morning year 8 gathered together to donate 3 overflowing and very heavy hampers to the Rev Owen Patterson from the Fountain Food Bank Downpatrick. He really inspired the year 8 girls this morning in assembly and congratulated them on this selfless act.

Well done to all the Year 8 pupils and their Form Teachers ands Head of Year.
