Principal's Welcome

Dear Parent/Guardian

Welcome to our website.  Hopefully you will get an insight into the wide ranging experiences afforded to our young people.

St Mary’s High School was established in 1957 by the Sisters of Mercy, and is a very popular non-selective community school providing an exceptional experience for students aged 11-19.  The school’s motto ‘Every Child Matters’ is at the core of all that we do to meet the emotional, spiritual and educational needs of every child.

Students from all religious persuasions and from across the full ability ranges are welcomed into our school. Every child is supported to succeed within a caring and supportive environment. We insist that students develop a ‘Can Do Attitude’ that they understand hard work is necessary if they are to reach their potential. We place great value on building a strong home school partnership, working closely with students and their families to ensure every student has high aspirations. Every student is guided to set appropriate individual targets to support improvement.

As a successful Catholic school, all our staff are committed to ensuring we provide a high quality educational experience for every child. We provide the opportunities for all to grow in understanding and respect for other cultural and faith traditions. We are a vibrant school keen to support our young people to develop leadership skills that will support them well into the future.  We have a strong history of giving back to local and global communities; our school was the first school in Northern Ireland to be presented with a Global Citizenship Award.

Our teenagers are kind and compassionate young people; they value education and achieve high standards in their examinations at both GCSE and A Level
