Introduction:
Travel and Tourism is offered at Key Stage 4 and 5 at St. Mary’s High School. Learners are given the opportunity to study Travel and Tourism from Year 11 through to Year 14. At KS4 learners are provided with the opportunity to study BTEC Level 2 Travel and Tourism, in Sixth Form learners are given the opportunity to study for
BTEC Level 3 Travel and Tourism.
What skills will I develop?
- You will develop an understanding of the Travel and Tourism industry
- You will be able to analyse how events can impact the industry.
- You will be able to evaluate the industries marketing strategies and future
development plans. - You will also learn important skills such as report writing, ICT skills, research
skills, analysis and evaluating.
Key Stage 4: BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Travel and Tourism
Pearson BTEC Level 1 / Level 2 First Award in Travel and Tourism which is the same size and level as a GCSE and is aimed at everyone who wants to find out more about the Travel and Tourism industry. The qualification provides an engaging and stimulating introduction to the world of Travel and Tourism giving the opportunity to develop knowledge and technical skills in a practical learning environment. As part of the course, you will explore some of
the key areas within the sector including accommodation, tourism development and promotion, transport and visitor attractions. You will investigate the importance of the Travel and Tourism sector to the UK, and investigate different types of customers and UK destinations.

Key Stage 5: Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Travel and Tourism
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Travel and Tourism is equivalent in size to one A Level. This qualification is made up of 4 units of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are external. The course is externally assessed for Unit 1 The World of Travel and Tourism and Unit 2 Global Destinations this is 58% of the course. This qualification is designed to support learners who are interested in learning about the Travel and Tourism industry alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in Travel and Tourism related subjects. The qualification is designed to be taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels.
