"I’m delighted to let you know that Libraries NI has announced details of this year’s Big Summer Read, which will take place from Monday 1 July until Saturday 31 August in all 96 libraries and 16 mobile libraries throughout Northern Ireland.
This annual reading initiative is a free programme offering fun and interactive ways to keep children and teens reading during the summer holidays. It’s a great way to address the ‘Summer Slide’, a decline in children’s reading skills and comprehension that occurs if they are not engaged with reading or activities over the summer months.
This year’s theme
The title for this year is ‘Slide into Summer Reading’ and as well as encouraging children to read as many books as possible, we’ll have a programme of exciting events and free activities linked to all sorts of adventures! Children who take part will receive a certificate at the end of the Summer.
